Imagine hosting a potluck lunch for a new group of friends. You’ve spent enough time together to know that none of them are ax murderers. You’ve even planned a theme for the gathering. Fast forward to the day of the event.
You’ve spent hours getting ready. You look fabulous. Your place is immaculate and ready for the party. Your friends arrive at the doorstep, arms filled with wine and foil covered casserole dishes.
You can see them eagerly approaching. You can hear their chatter and smell the tantalising aroma of the food they’ve brought. But what if, instead of greeting them, opening the door and kickstarting the party, you just sit there.
You don’t open the door, you don’t welcome them in and you certainly don’t get the party started. You think, if they really want to party they’ll barge in state their intentions and get the ball rolling themselves.
It sounds bizarre and weird, doesn’t it? Now replace party with YouTube channel and friends with audience. That’s precisely what many YouTube creators do when they don’t have a proper strategy around their channel.
They gather an audience, but fail to lead them into their sales mechanism, intentionally and strategically. And as a result, they miss out on converting these connections into sales. Doing both their audience and themselves, a huge disservice.
Just like the hostess who thinks the party will magically start because she’s gathered everyone at her place. Your YouTube channel won’t thrive without a strategy. It’s not just about gathering an audience, it’s about guiding them through your content and leading them to your product or services.
I think that there are two main reasons that people don’t have a sales path from YouTube in place. Number one is that they don’t know they should. Or they don’t know how to create one. They’re probably also focused on monetizing with YouTube AdSense.
I said it before, and I’ll say it again. Whilst AdSense can generate some revenue for you, it’s typically not enough to sustain a full-time income. This is due to the unpredictable nature of YouTube AdSense, which depends on factors out of your control. Such as advertiser demand and viewer ad preferences.
The second reason is that people are probably afraid to sell on YouTube. The fear of being seen as an imposter can be overwhelming. But remember everyone has unique experiences, insights, and skills to share.
Selling is not about tricking people into buying something they don’t need. It’s about offering an exchange for a solution that can genuinely help people. And you do have this. I get it.
I’ve been in both these situations and I’m here now to tell you that you should sell and not doing so it’s actually denying others the benefit of your product or service.
Let’s delve into the story of Kuulei. One of my students who embarked her YouTube journey and was filled with passion, but lacked a clear sales strategy. Through the course, she had her eureka moment.
She needed to create an offer. Something valuable that she could sell to her audience. This realisation was a game changer for Kuulei. She said about creating her unique offer, aligning it with her channel’s content and the needs of her audience.
This was not just a product for sale. It was an extension of the value she provided in her videos. I told her that our audience would appreciate this authenticity and respond positively. And they did.
As a result, Kuulei began to monetize her YouTube channel more strategically and consistently. But more than that, she started seeing the potential of transforming her channel into a fully fledged business.
The consistent revenue from her offer provided her the means to invest more into her channel, enhancing the quality of her content and expanding her reach. What happened to Kuulei was not an isolated case.
In fact, it’s quite common. When you have a tangible offer it shifts your entire perspective towards your YouTube channel. You start seeing it, not just as another platform for sharing content, but a platform for business growth.
You feel more confident about your content? Knowing that it’s backed by a solid offer. This confidence radiates through your videos. Boost your engagement and convert your viewers into customers.
They’re not just passive consumers of content anymore. They’re active participants in the exchange of value you have to offer. If you need help unraveling this, and if you’d like to have your YouTube channel running like a perfectly synchronized clock, attracting a growing audience and bringing in a steady income for you.
