I’m honored and grateful to have this opportunity to share this together with you. Right here on the Thriving Creator Podcast. I’m glad you’re here. Let’s get started.
Many YouTube creators seem to follow a video making or production blueprint that really is designed for people with endless hours on their hands, energy levels that rival a power plant and lives that revolve solely around their channel or business only.
And if this is you, and if this is working for you, that’s awesome. Keep doing your thing. But if this is not you, if you have limited time after working a job or looking after the little ones all day, or maybe even both, or maybe you have a pile of laundry so high you’re ready to strap on climbing gear and plant a conquered flag at the peak of it.
And if it took you so long to create your last video, and if you’re really honest, you weren’t that proud of it. It didn’t showcase you or your expertise in the best light. Maybe you didn’t release it because you were embarrassed by it.
And it just felt like amateur hour. You might be getting the whole video creation thing wrong and it’s not your fault. The crazy YouTube video hamster wheel is often promoted by so many YouTube gurus and that approach isn’t sustainable for most people. But I’m going to show you how to fix it in three easy steps.
Step one
Stop trying to do it all yourself. Especially the video editing. If you want to do it all by yourself, cue the Celine Dion song here. You’re going to have to accept the fact that learning how to edit videos will take you time.
Getting good at video editing takes time and in the beginning, you’re not going to be very good. But make it easy on yourself by hiring a video editor. You will wish you did it earlier once you do this. Look, I’m really not against editing your own videos.
I edited my videos in the beginning, so I know how slow and painful it is. I was stubborn and thought I was the only one who could possibly deliver my vision for my videos, but I was really wrong.
I can also tell you that once you find the one, the one amazing video editor who was aligned to you and can deliver your videos, how you want it, it’s magical. Don’t make the same mistake I did and hold onto video editing. It’s time to be like frozen and let it go.
Step two
Stop underestimating how long it will take you to get YouTube done. You think you can get it all done in one day, the scripting, the filming, the editing, and then you’d beat yourself up when you realise you’re behind your impossible schedule.
Plus, can we please factor in the reality that there is life outside of YouTube? A beautiful life. And creating content needs to fit around this life. I remember one particular day vividly.
I was determined to film, edit, upload a video one Sunday. I had an all or nothing mentality and wanted to get it done. I woke up bright and early full of enthusiasm. I spent the morning scripting, dedicated the morning to filming and my afternoon to editing.
As the day went on my energy dwindled. The sunset. And before I knew it, it was 8:00 PM and my phone was ringing. I forgotten about a dinner date. I promised with my bestie. And in addition to that, I was exhausted. My video was only half edited and I had worked the next day.
I beat myself up feeling really disappointed and defeated. I had underestimated the time it took to create quality content. And I was working like those nothing else, but YouTube in my life. And I felt pretty miserable.
That day it really was a wake up call. It made me realise that the process of creating content needs to fit around life. Not consume it.
Step three
And this is especially geared towards my creative and spiritual peeps, you need to get organised and structured. You can’t just go with the flow with YouTube. You need to claim it and own it, or it will overwhelm you.
Without a system or plan in place, your YouTube goals will forever remain out of reach. If you follow these three steps of one, stop trying to do it all yourself, two, stop underestimating how long it would take you to get YouTube done, and three, getting organised and structured with YouTube.
You’re going to find this way of creating videos, much less stressful. Centered around your fantastic life, not some YouTube guru who has infinite time to burn. No hamster wheels here. We are not rodents
Creating videos on YouTube when done correctly is fun and fabulous. And it’s a process that really can light you up. And it’s the best way to establish credibility and authority to grow your business faster than any other platform too.
Here’s to creating YouTube content that not only showcases your unique creativity and expertise, but also fits seamlessly into your lifestyle and accelerates your business growth. Let the youtube journey be joyful and rewarding for you.
