How to improve your website

improve_website

So you have a website for your business and you’ve spent a lot of time and money developing it, but nothing’s really happened with it since you launched it. You want your website to bring in more clients for you like it’s meant to, but you don’t know how to make it better or to get it to generate more leads and sales.

In this video, I’ll share with you 5 tips you can implement right away, to help improve your website, so that it can start producing more results for your business.

How to improve your website (video transcript)

There’s nothing worse than putting copious HOURS and dollars into your website, only to see little to no results. Let’s look at a few ways we can  improve your website so that it can begin attracting more leads and clients for your business.

Tip #1. Get a beautiful, clean look for your website

The reality is that beautiful websites sell more. And the reason for that is that people are more inclined to buy from a website that looks professional and that they trust.

The look of a website increases the likelihood that a browser will buy from you. So make sure that you have a theme or design that puts your business in the best light.

If you’re unhappy with the look of your website, you can engage with a web designer to give you a custom look, or you can select a new theme.

When looking at a new design, keep in mind that:
2-3 colours is enough.

1-2 font types is enough

White space is good! Lack of color allows for people to focus on the content and your message.
I’ve put a link in the description below if you need a designer to help you with a sizzling new look for your site as well as sites you can visit to find beautiful WordPress themes.

Tip #2 Keep it simple with your menu items

Your website navigation is an important part of your website as this is how your visitors will find information on your site, and this is a case where less is more.

With fewer items in the menu your visitors’ eyes are less likely to scan past important items.

My recommendation is that 5-8 items in the menu is enough, keeping it concise.

Tip #3 Increase your website speed

People expect a fast experience when visiting a website and if they don’t get that they’re highly likely to leave the page and complain.

This is not ideal for you, because you want users to stay on your page to learn more about you, engage with your content and enquire or buy from your site.
There are many factors which slow down a website, from excessively large images, to inefficient plug ins and code on your site.

To improve your website speed, I recommend getting a good hosting provider to start off with. I use and love A2 Hosting.

Secondly, use Google’s Page Speed Insights to analyze your site. Google’s Page Insights will highlight issues with your site you can fix to increase its speed. Most of this stuff will be very technical so send the recommended changes to a developer to fix for you.

Tip #4 Give people amazing Content

If you want to improve your website, you need to generate more content for your site. People are looking for solutions to their problems and more that you can demonstrate that you’re able to help them do this, the more chances of them trusting you enough to buy from you.

Posting regular blog post whether it’s videos, or articles or infographics…people are hungry for information. So find a medium that works for you – in my case I like to use Video and make a commitment to creating content regularly.

Finally, Tip #5 Promote your website

I’m a strong believer that when you’re first starting out in business, your audience exist, they just don’t know that you’re there yet. So in order for them to see and hear you – you need to reach them by promoting your site.

A few quick things you can do to promote your site:

You can run Facebook Ads to your blog post to increase the reach of your Blog.

You can share your blog post in Facebook Groups and Google + Communities – make sure that you do this in a non-spammy way.

And share your blog post to your Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram accounts as well.

Make sure that you use relevant hashtags so that anyone searching for the hashtag can find your content.
